Hello and welcome!
Introductions are called for. My name is Jeff and I am 59 years old. I am currently employed as an IT technician with a local government agency. I have been doing this for 23 years. I am very happily married to my high school sweetheart. We have been walking through life together for 37 years and have 2 wonderful kids and a fantastic son-in-law.
I began this chapter of my weight loss/health journey weighing in at 408 pounds. I have been experiencing joint issues in my hips and knees for the past several years. Both knees have been scoped, and I have been told that both hips will need to be replaced. Unfortunately, I am not a good surgical candidate due to my weight. I have high blood pressure and am prediabetic.
I finally reached the point where I knew that something must change. I have tried several diets over the years, but nothing really stuck. I decided at the end of November that I would switch to a low carb, high protein, and no sugar diet.
I came to the realization that I was highly addicted to sugar and carbs so cutting them cold turkey was not a good option if I wanted to be successful. My plan was to slowly drop the amount of carbs eaten during the week. I started on Sunday December 7th and for the rest of the week I allowed myself around 100 grams of carbs per day. My weight dropped to 399 pounds on December 14th! This week (14th through 20th) I have dropped my carb goal down to 75 grams.
My carb goal for the week of December 21st will drop down to 50 grams (Christmas may not be a successful day!). The following week (December 28th through January 3rd) the carb goal will drop again to 25 grams. My goal heading into the new year is to be at no carbs – eating only protein and fat.
The purpose of this blog is to both document the journey and to keep myself accountable.
I invite you to walk with me towards better health!
